Stumbling upon Cafeand was pure serendipity. I was wandering in Shoreditch on my last day in London, and this small concept store with a glass-to-ceiling shopfront attracted my attention. Upon entering, I was delighted to find a clean little cafe serving freshly-made, healthy, and delicious-looking pies and tarts. Good for the body, good for the soul.
A flourless pea and mint torte (approx. £5) with Gruyere and Parmesan cheese, not so photogenic, but very delicious. Light and fluffy with an evident but harmonious note of mint weaved through. Also loved the butter lettuce salad on the side – unbelievably fresh.
Broccoli frittata (approx. £5), slightly bland.
Chocolate and almond cake (approx. £4) with a hint of anise, served with whipped cream. Rich lovely flavor, only wish the texture were smoother.
Food at Cafeand is light and healthy, and quite delicious for the most part. A wonderful spot to rest your feet, soak up some serenity, and conquer the rest of East London.
