…And it’s back! After a few months of hibernation, Madison – one of my favorite places for brunch in Shanghai – soft-opened its new Fenyang Lu location just this past week. Poached egg with pig trotter croquette, stuffed brioche French toast, refried potato pancake sticks…I have missed you!

The new Madison is divided into two parts: part one is the original Madison concept, while part two “Madi’s” is a more casual gastro-lounge at a lower price point, and is also where brunch is served. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived at the restaurant, so we commenced our midday drinking at the bar. Here’s a Madison Mimosa (55 RMB) made with bubble, orange juice, and ginger orange sorbet.

Madison is currently using the old brunch menu, but rumor has it that they will be introducing some new items starting next weekend. Here are some old favorites, many of them I’ve described here so will just present you the pictures this time: refried potato pancake sticks (30 RMB).

Poached eggs with pig trotter croquette, housemade English muffin, xo hollandaise (48 RMB).

Country-fried steak with chorizo gravy (98 RMB).

Stuffed brioche French toast with banana and streusel (56 RMB).

BLT – house bacon, roast tomato, arugula, fried egg (58 RMB).

We also had a chance to sample some dishes from the new Madi’s menu, which is still being tweaked at this moment. One of my favorites is this Spinach Salad with Beijing Blue and Hickory Nut (45 RMB), dressed in a lovely red wine vinaigrette, with a fried 5-minute egg perched at the top.

Also loved the Goat Cheese Crostini (35 RMB) with mixed mushrooms, frisee, and truffle oil.

Ricotta Meatballs (60 RMB) with tomato fennel sauce and mozzarella.

Grilled Cheese (48 RMB) with roast mushrooms and fine herbs.

Clams Casino (40 RMB) with bacon, breadcrumbs, and parsley. We were slightly disappointed with this dish when it arrived at our table since the portion was a lot smaller than expected.

Mac and Cheese (48 RMB) with brown butter topping.
