Miel, or “honey” in French, is an art gallery/cafe in Seoul’s ultra sleek (and jaw-droppingly expensive) Fashion and Art district Cheongdam-dong (청담동/淸潭洞). Modern decor, beautiful desserts, friendly service…I love it!

Menu

Browsing the menu, I noticed a curious item called “Dutch baby pancake” (15,000 won). So what is it? Let’s order one and find out.

I later learned that a Dutch baby pancake (a.k.a. German pancake, Bismarck, or Dutch puff) is a sweet breakfast dish similar to Yorkshire pudding. It’s simply made with eggs, flour and milk and typically served with fresh squeezed lemon, butter, and powdered sugar. The version at Miel, served hot and puffy from the skillet, came with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate whipped cream. Absolutely heavenly. If you are curious, check out this Dutch baby pancake recipe by Martha Stewart.

Miel’s mixed berry waffle (16,000 won) is another feast to the eyes and the taste buds. It’s chewier than Beans Bins‘ fluffy waffles, and I just can’t decide which one I prefer – both are to die for. The tiebreaker might be the pistachio ice-cream that came with Miel’s waffles…Om nom nom nom.

A cup of caramel latte (11,000 won), perfect on its own but a bit too sweet alongside all the sugary things we ordered.

Food aside, the interior of Miel is very interestingly modeled after a beehive.

  3. [...] [...]

  4. Somehow I missed this cool place even though I live in that area. And the waffles look to die for! Thankfully it is getting easier to find such things in the city. :)

  5. Beautiful photos! Everything looks delicious. Altough these are some very expensive desserts and coffee, even for Gangnam!

  6. Thank you for the comment :) Miel was recommended to me by a Korean friend, and I really liked it a lot. Hope to be back in Seoul again soon – there seems to be many chic cafes all over the city.

  7. I’m surprised you didn’t visit Hongdae! It’s the main artsy/nightlife area in Seoul. And the epicenter of charming cafes! ;)
