From the famed and impossible-to-book Frenchie, Frenchie To Go is a no reservation, 15-seat only casual eatery serving breakfast all day (donuts,  bacon and maple syrup scones, smoked bacon English muffins, etc.) and lunch from noon to 4pm (sandwiches, hotdogs, fish & chips, soups, etc.) The menu is short but very tempting, and everything I tried on this first visit was indeed very delicious.

There is a cold seasonal soup, which happened to be peach and tomato gazpacho with feta (€10) on the day of my visit. The intense acidity from the tomatoes was adequately smoothed out by refreshing peaches and creamy feta, good when paired with the accompanying pain des amis.

Then there’s fish & chips (€14), but this is no ordinary fish & chips. Underneath the crispy coating is a tender, juicy fillet of merlu de ligne (line-caught Hake), which, whether paired with house-made tartar sauce and chipped green peas or not, is absolutely delicious.

Pulled pork sandwich (€10), two soft buns sandwiching smoked pork, bbq sauce, and coleslaw. Smoky, sweet, tangy, very good.

It’s rather curious that the menu lists both frites and French fries, and, not knowing what the difference is, I asked. At the waitress’ recommendation, I decided on French fries, which are apparently skinnier and fried with its skin. So here is it, French fries (€3.50) with a range of sauces to choose from: bbq, tartar, russian, harissa, ginger mayonnaise.

Frenchie To Go is a great place for quick (but quality) meals. I’d come back to try its breakfast and a few other lunch items that sound too good to miss – Reuben’s sandwich with pastrami, keen’s cheddar and coleslaw, hotdog with 100% beef sausage and house sauerkraut, and lobster roll with Breton lobster, white butter and celery…
