…and Joël Robuchon has finally extended his tentacles to Taiwan. Voici le salon de thé de Joël Robuchon, let’s see what we’ve got here.


The afternoon tea set, inclusive of two demi-sandwiches, two small cakes of your choice, two macarons, two madeleine/financiers, and two pots of tea or coffee, is priced at 1,200 NTD. The set without demi-sandwiches goes for 1,040 NTD.

For tea, I chose Wedding Imperial, a blend of Assam with fragrant caramel, vanilla, honey, and chocolate. It came in a chic but extremely heavy STAUB teapot, smelling glorious but tasting slightly astringent and bitter from over-steeping.


But let’s focus on desserts. Tarte au citron (190 NTD a la carte), a cone of lemon custard wrapping a layer of crème fraiche and zesty lemon sauce. Cute, isn’t it? In terms of flavor, the lemon custard is quite acidic, but well-balanced by the sweet and velvety crème fraiche.

At the waitress’s recommendation, we also tried the mille-feuille a la fraise (190 NTD a la carte), three flaky layers of puff pastry sandwiching vanilla custard and fresh strawberries.

Then there were the light and moist financiers (80 NTD a la carte), simple cakes made from beurre noisette, egg whites, powdered sugar and flour.

Our lovely waitress (thank you!) gave us three complimentary macarons (80 NTD each) in addition to the two that came with the set, so we were able to try a few extra flavors: pistachio, mango, raspberry, chocolate, and sesame. The macarons are undoubtedly among the better I’ve had in Taipei.

Salon de The de Joël Robuchon is a good choice for afternoon tea, but keep in mind that a wait is necessary as they don’t take reservations.
