Semilla, a contemporary bistro by MOF Eric Trochon and his brigade of Ferrandi graduates, sits right in the heart of St. Germain-des-Pres. The renovated interior is modern but not overly edgy, its focal point being the gleaming open kitchen and its team of cuisiniers, who slices and sears and plates with a composed hustle and bustle. The atmosphere was so attractive that I wished I could get on the inside and partake in whatever they were doing there, too!

For a light-hearted brunch in Paris, try hotel/restaurant Auberge Flora. Its €28 brunch set starts bubbly with a glass of cidre rosé ecusson, followed by entrées in small plates and hearty portions of main courses to share among the table, ending with a few delightful dessert bites. Bright and airy, with friendly service.

Happy with my cup of latte at Coutume Cafe during my first visit, I soon went back to try their brunch.

Brunch menu at Coutume Cafe changes monthly, and for October there are three choices ranging from €25~30 per set. A friend and I shared Brunch Les Ogres de Coutume (€30), which includes: French-style scrambled eggs, baked potato with chopped hazelnut and chives, bacon, sausage, assortment of three mini viennoiseries with house-made rhubarb vanilla bourbon jam, fresh juice, toasts, and a hot drink (tea, coffee, or hot chocolate). Oh yes, it was enough to feed the two of us.

French-style scrambled eggs, soft and fluffy.

Baked potato with chopped hazelnut and chives.
