Love, Tilly Devine might be a trick to find, but it’s well worth the search. Named after Sydney’s notorious crime boss of the late 1920s, this tiny wine bar by chef Tim Webber (ex-Sean’s Panaroma) and sommelier Matt Swieboda (ex-Quay) is a charming space composed of not much other than rough timber, hanging ferns, an open kitchen, and a few intimate tables. It exudes the kind of a simple, lovely warmth that sucks you right in.

Wine is serious business here, but for the evening we opted for the cocktails. Here’s a light and refreshing Aperol Spritz (12 AUD), a mix of Aperol (a bitter-orange based aperitif) and sparkling wine.

Dark & Stormy (14 AUD), dark rum and ginger beer over ice, garnished with a slice of lime.

A small plate of olives, complimentary.

Love, Tilly Devine has the perfect combination of reasonably-priced drinks with delicious small bites (I heard, though I didn’t have room to try), all in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. What’s not to like?
