We spent our first two nights in Stockholm at Story Hotel in Ostermalm, a posh residential / shopping district of the city. The placement really can’t get any better – the hotel is surrounded by chic designer boutiques, restaurants, bars and clubs, and is only a one-minute walk to metro Ostermalmstorg (one stop away from the central train station). Most places we visited – Gamla Stan (old town), Skeppsholmen (museum island), the pier (to hop on a boat to the Archipelago) etc. – are all within walking distance. Really, the perfect location.

The design is stylish – polished concrete floors, exposed pipes across the ceilings, lush velvet furnishings – with quirky details sprinkled here and there.

The bar, also in the quirky chic style of decor, really comes alive at night with both hotel and non-hotel guests. A bonus for hotel guests: a 150 SEK coupon is offered when booking through the hotel website.

The lovely courtyard reminded me of Michelberger in Berlin, but alas it was too cold during the time of our visit to take advantage of this outdoor space.

To the rooms. Story Hotel has 82 rooms split into three sizes and eight categories – the smallest being the Super Squeeze (11.5 sqm) and the largest being The Attic (93 sqm). We stayed at “The Standard” (1,990 SEK/night), which is 21 sqm in size and includes a King bed (ultra-comfortable, with 100% organic cotton linens.), working space, fridge (some free drinks included), safe, TV, and wifi.

The bathroom is small and efficient, with rainshower, FACE toiletries, and a heated floor! Just two small complaints – there’s hardly any space around the sink to put things, and minimal separation of the shower means water gets out quite easily.

Old-fashioned black toilet seats and floral ceramic basins, cute.

Breakfast buffet is included in the room rates, and is a nice spread of breads, cereals, cold cuts, cheeses, jams, fruits, yogurts, juices…etc. Cute plates and mugs are a nice touch, and the coffee – though pre-made in a huge flask – was very good as well.

Perfect location, stylish and quirky decor, comfortable rooms, efficient check-in and check-out. The only thing that bothered me was the small bathroom and the lack of space to put toiletries, while my travelmate didn’t like the fact that there’s no front desk, but we both really enjoyed the stay regardless and highly recommend this place. If you are looking for something that’s more affordable than the typical hotel in Ostermalm neighborhood without sacrificing comfort and style, Story Hotel might be exactly what you are after.
