When some friends invited me to have dinner at “Fresh Station Sushi & Fruits”, I wasn’t sure what to expect. “Fresh Station” itself sounds like a salad bar, and the sushi + fruits combo just threw me off completely. Apparently this is a sushi bar that incorporates fruits into its cuisine, which sounds like a desperate attempt to differentiate itself from the hundreds of other sushi restaurants in Taipei…but the friends who invited me to dinner are serious foodies, so I trusted their opinions and went in for a try.

Upon being seated, my friends told me that they are actually not a fan of Fresh Station’s fruit cuisine, but really enjoy the more traditional sushis prepared by the chefs here. So that’s what we had that night.

One of the restaurant specialty is its large variety of pickles – apparently they pickle everything – which are supplied to customers generously throughout the meal.

A highlight of the night were two exceptional bottles of sake brought by friends. The first was 梵 超吟” 純米大吟醸 Born Chogin, made with “Yamada nishiki” rice (one of the best rice for making sake) polished to 20% and aged for 5 years. Smooth, clear, very refined.

The second was 久保田 萬寿 Kubota Manju. Light and aromatic, another great bottle.

After a bowl of hot soup to warm up the stomach, our meal commenced omakase-style.

An excellent dinner. Service was attentive and smooth throughout the meal, our sushi chef being friendly and chatty to just the right amount, giving us information about what we were eating without interrupting our conversations. The meal turned out to be a bit over 2000 NTD per person, which seems like an excellent deal especially when compared to the now extremely pricey sushi bars in Shanghai, but Fresh Station also offers cheaper sets for both lunch and dinner. I’m not sure if I enjoyed the meal a lot because I went with friends who are frequent patrons and got special treatment, or if Fresh Station normally is this good. Anyway, a place to try.

  1. We will arrive at Taipei at noon tomorrow, 8 of us wish to have lunch, could I book a table Abd when is last order for lunch? Thanks

  2. Please could you reserve a table for 4 on 25/1 at 12:00pm under the name of Mrs. Wan, contact no +852 94314595. I can be contacted by whatsapp message only starting from 22-25 Jan 2016. Thanks

  3. I went here last night and our meal wasn’t even close to being as nice. We paid about the same amount but received a fewer and uncreative dishes before leaving hungry. The chef didn’t talk with us at all, didn’t ask how we were by the end, and service was incredibly slow – it ran about 2.5 hours, with the timing being highly erratic.

    1. Hi Daniel, sorry to hear about this bad experience! I went there a few years ago, so it’s possible that the service and food quality have gone down…if you are looking for another Japanese meal in Taipei, another one friends have consistently recommended to me is 匠樂, perhaps you could give that a try.
