On a miserably cold and wet day in Paris, a friend and I trekked through the rain to Maison du Chocolat for some intense chocolate therapy. On days like this, there’s not much better than a cup of freshly boiled hot chocolate in the comfort of one’s bed!

The small boutique on Rue de Sèvres displays rows and rows of beautiful chocolates and related desserts, but on this particular day there was only one thing on our mind – la tasse de chocolat.

So here it is, la tasse de chocolat (€13), a tube of dark chocolate pearls that make an intense chocolate drink to be enjoyed hot or cold.

The packaging includes detailed explanation on how to make hot/cold chocolate. For hot chocolate, follow these steps:

  1. Pour ¾ liter of milk and ¼ liter of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Add the chocolate beads in the boiling liquid and mix using a whisk to evenly melt the mixture.
  3. While mixing with a whisk bring the mixture to a boil once again, lower the heat and let the mixture reduce for 2 to 3 minutes to obtain a smooth hot chocolate.
  4. For best results, let the hot chocolate stand to cool slowly and when ready to serve, reheat the chocolate mixture without boiling it.
  5. Pour in serving container through a sieve and serve.

Et voilà. I didn’t boil the liquid enough so the hot chocolate wasn’t as thick as it should be, but I’m not too worried…the winter in Paris is long, and there will be many more cups of this to come.
