Restaurant Sesame, a cute little cafe in the lively Canal St. Martin neighborhood, is a hotspot for Sunday brunches. Smoothies, eggs, bagels, and toasts with homemade jams – all organic!

Brunch (€22) includes a hot drink (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate), oeuf à la coque (soft-boiled egg), toast with butter and homemade jams, fruit smoothie of choice, bagel of choice, and dessert of choice.

Perfectly cooked oeuf à la coque.

Homemade jams.

Bagel Rachel – marinated chicken, honey, avocado. The bagel itself was fine, but the filling seemed too little – perhaps I’m just too used to American portions?

Bagel Alabama – marinated artichoke, arugula, tomato confit. A better choice compared to the one above, in my opinion.

Formage blanc au miel, creamy soft fresh cheese served with honey, tastes similar to a very thick yogurt.

Carrot cake with cream cheese, denser than the American version, equally tasty.

The food at Restaurant Sesame are not mind-blowing, but are comforting in their simplicity. There’s a contagious vitality to this little place – the waitresses were taking shots and doing happy dances as they prepared the food – and it’s difficult not to have a good time here. No reservations for brunch, so come early (brunch starts at 11:30am) if you don’t want to wait.
