After reading some good words about lunch at Caillebotte on Lost In Cheeseland, I decided to pay this bright little bistro a visit. It was packed at Friday noon time and we were lucky to be given a table right near the window, though I would have loved a seat at the open kitchen bar. Yes, reservation highly recommended. On a side note, the team that opened Caillebotte is the same as the one behind Le Pantruche, which apparently is very very good.

Lunch at Caillebotte is €14 (plat du jour) or €19 (plus entrée or dessert), a bigger menu and a la carte options are also available.

For entrée, we tried ceviche de mulet, carottes sauvages, sablé a la cardamone (+€2), mullet ceviche with wild carrots and cardamon shortbread biscuits. A refreshing and acidic dish that really opened up the palate.

We also tasted petits choux, mariniere de coquillages breton et chorizo (+€2), brussel sprouts with Brittany shellfish and chorizo. In comparison, this was a much milder and well-rounded dish, but equally tasty.

Plat du jour was cod fish with broccoli mousseline, stewed clams and cabbage. The fish itself was good, but I was really in love with the clam and cabbage stew on the side. Such rich flavors!

Among the tempting options on the a la carte menu, we chose poitrine de cochon fermier, citrouille-chataignes, jus d’herbes et cereals, pork belly with pumpkin, chestnut, herb juice, and nuts. The slightly caramelized pork belly, smeared with cilantro puree and crusted with nuts, was a lovely ensemble of flavors and textures. Would’ve been nice to have more chestnut-iness on the dish though.

For dessert, we shared Granny Smith rôtie-glacée, mousse d’oseille, meringue, roasted and iced Granny Smith with sorrel mousse and meringue. Light and tart, just what we needed.

A lovely lunch spot, indeed. For something in the same genre, try Pirouette.
