Naam Thai, a personal project of T8‘s manager Walter Zahner,  is a modern and stylish Thai restaurant in the Jianguo Lu Loft. The decor is sleek, the service is pleasant enough, and the food, while not super memorable, is decent and on par with Coconut Paradise and other popular Thai restaurants around town.

The space was quite empty when we went on a Saturday evening, but the restaurant seemed to be getting a lot of take-out orders.

Pomelo salad with prawns and coconut (58 RMB).

Spring rolls.

Deep fried lemon grass stuffed chicken wings (42 RMB).

Jasmine rice (8 RMB), stir-fried morning glories with shrimp paste (48 RMB), chicken galangal soup (42 RMB).

Green chicken curry (72 RMB).

Sago with mango (38 RMB), pandan-flavored crème brûlée (42 RMB).

Mango with sticky rice (48 RMB).

There wasn’t one particular dish that stood out, but I found the food to be quite good in general. Mark this as a safe place to go to if you are craving Thai, especially when you can’t get a reservation at the perpetually packed Coconut Paradise.

  1. i went there last summer with a few friends too! though, just like you said, the food was nothing too memorable, it is indeed a safe place to go when all the other popular seats are reserved at the other thai places in town =)

  2. Cindy I love looking up restos in Shanghai and finding old posts from you (heading to this place for dinner tonight) — makes me feel like you’re still around! Miss you :)
