On my first day in Hong Kong, I had the perfect light lunch at Cafe Gray Deluxe, a modern European restaurant occupying the 49th floor of the chic Upper House Hotel. With a stunning view of Victoria Harbour as the backdrop and plates of style and panache brought forth by celebrity chef Gray Kunz, Cafe Gray Deluxe easily delights.

A commanding view of the Victoria Harbour, I can only imagine how spectacular it must look after dark.

The view

The meal started off with fluffy mixed grain bread accompanied by a plain yogurt dip. Excellent.

The Steak Tartar (140 HKD), made with spectacular meat and very little else, was so good it still resonates in my mind. The delicate texture and flavor of raw beef is preserved and accentuated through just the right amount of seasoning, and when paired with fresh, crispy gaufrettes…wow.

The Lobster Cobb Salad (225 HKD), sparked with zesty lemon juice and encircled by fresh slices of creamy avocado, was another ideal summer lunch dish.

Desserts were let go off since I was scheduled to have afternoon tea soon after lunch, but I quite enjoyed the complimentary plate of dark and milk chocolate chunks.

I walked out of Cafe Gray Deluxe feeling light as a cloud, and the gorgeous weather only served to enhance my happy mood. What’s next? Afternoon tea at Sevva.
